What is the hindu/budhist name for the devil?
As MVD34 answered, the name given to negative thoughts and impulses is "Mara."

When the Buddha sat down under the bodhi tree and vowed not to move until he directly perceived the causes of suffering and the way to end suffering, Mara (aspects of the Buddha's consciousness) attempted to prevent this.

Mara first tried to deceive the Buddha in various ways. For example, he "told" the Buddha that it was not correct to be practicing meditation alone. Instead, he should join the ascetics with whom he had practiced earlier. The Buddha renounced deceit.

When these types of deceptions failed to move the Buddha, Mara sent an army of warriors in an effort to rouse the Buddha to violence. But the Buddha renounced the deep violence within himself.

Finally, Mara sent his three beautiful daughters to tempt the Buddha (their names were Craving, Lust, and Lechery). But the Buddha struggled against the temptation and renounced craving, lust, and lechery.

At this point, the Mara gave up (the Buddha had extinguished afflictive mind habits) and the Buddha touched the earth to call it to witness his enlightenment.

This way is available to all of us.
Reply:In Hindu Religion the classical Sanskrit Name is "Dhaitya"--the synonym is"Raakshasa"--"A-sura"(Devil or Demon) is negative of Sura (angels)
Reply:Mara (Buddhist)

Although my editorial comment is that Mara is not an exact parallel...more like the OT (Jewish) devil than the NT (Christian) one.
